The Problem

Heavy price competition in the market often leads to compromised tile specifications, which can cause problems after installation.

Price Pressure

Aggressive pricing forces manufacturers to cut corners on materials and production quality.

Off-Spec Tiles

Tiles deviating from standard specifications cause installation gaps, lippage, and failures.

Uninformed Buyers

Most buyers are unaware of what true tile specifications look like or how to check them.

Why Tile Specification Matters

Correct specifications ensure better installation and long-term durability.

Size Accuracy

Tiles must be dimensionally consistent—deviations cause uneven grout lines and poor alignment.

Surface Flatness

Warped tiles cause lippage — a safety hazard and an eyesore after grouting.

Strength

Adequate breaking strength prevents cracking under load and extends the floor's lifespan.

Shade Consistency

Uniform shading across batches is essential for a cohesive, professional-looking installation.

Water Absorption

Low water absorption is critical for wet areas—high absorption leads to staining and structural damage.

Simple Checks

Anyone can do these quick checks before buying or installing tiles.

01

Face to Face

Place two tiles face-to-face. Any gap in the centre or edges reveals warping.

02

Check Flatness

Lay a straight edge or spirit level across the tile surface to detect any bow.

03

Measure Diagonals

Both diagonals of a square tile must be equal. Unequal diagonals mean poor geometry.

04

Inspect Under Light

Rake light across the surface. Pinholes, cracks, or uneven glaze become immediately visible.
